Press & data
Last updated:
RateWatchdog is an independent electricity-rate watchdog for the PJM states — PA, OH, NJ, MD, VA, WV, DC, DE, and IL. We compute localized, per-utility figures from primary sources (state commission orders, U.S. EIA, SEC filings, PJM auction results) that don't exist anywhere else in one place. If you're covering electricity prices in our footprint, this data is yours to use.
Ground rules
- · Republish freely with credit — "RateWatchdog" plus a link. Underlying figures are public-domain government data; our compilations are CC BY 4.0.
- · Every figure is sourced and dated — commission orders, dockets, and federal datasets are linked from every page. Our methodology is public.
- · We are independent — no supplier commissions, no utility or industry funding. How we make money.
- · Contact: [email protected] — data questions, custom cuts by state or utility, or a heads-up subscription for auction-day analysis.
Data assets
PJM capacity cost, utility by utility
The per-utility dollar figure nobody else publishes: what the record 2025–26 PJM capacity auctions cost each utility's residential customer base, computed from state commission orders × EIA-861 customer counts. Updated within 24 hours of each new auction result. CSV download included.
Utility Report Cards
Utilities ranked on reliability (EIA-861 SAIDI/SAIFI), residential disconnections for nonpayment (EIA-112), and parent-company profit (SEC 10-K) — federal data localized per utility.
Rate-case tracker
Every rate change we track across 9 states with docket numbers, commission sources, and plain-English drivers — plus the PJM capacity auction sequence behind the 2025–26 increases.
Data centers & your electric bill
State-by-state explainers (VA, PA, OH, MD, IL) on how data-center demand feeds the capacity price spike — JLARC, PJM IMM, and EIA sourced.
Average electric bill by state
EIA 2024 average monthly bill, usage, and all-in price for the 9 states we cover — with the price-vs-usage decomposition.
