Open data: verified electricity rates

Last updated: · Rates last verified: 2026-07-19

The current default electricity supply rate for all 24 utilities we track — the Price to Compare, Standard Service Offer, Basic Generation Service, or Standard Offer Service — as one dataset. Every row carries its primary-source URL, its verification date, and its reset schedule. We maintain it because we need it to be right; you're welcome to build on it.

License & credit

CC BY 4.0 — free to use, republish, and build on, with credit to RateWatchdog and a link to ratewatchdog.com. The underlying figures are public information from utilities and regulators; our verified compilation is the licensed work. Rates shown are supply-only (delivery charges are additional) and reset on each utility's schedule — see the reset calendar. Method: how we verify. Questions or custom cuts: [email protected].

Embeddable live rate badges

Running a local news site, blog, or community page? Embed a utility's current verified rate — it updates whenever we verify a new figure, and it credits back here. Copy the snippet, swap the utility if needed:

What's in the dataset

FieldMeaning
rate_cents_kwh Current residential default supply rate, ¢/kWh — supply only, delivery charges additional
default_service_name What the rate is called in that state (Price to Compare, SSO, BGS, SOS)
effective_start When the current figure took effect
verified_at When we last verified it against the primary source
source_url The primary source: the utility's posted rate page, commission tool, or tariff document
reset_cadence / next_reset How often the rate changes and the next scheduled change

Caveats we label rather than hide: several utilities have seasonal or usage-tiered rates (the dataset carries the current-period residential figure; tiers and seasonal steps are documented on each utility's page); rates reset on each utility's schedule, so always check verified_at.
